Welcome to the Wyoming Interns to Teacher Scholars (WITS)
Program at the University of Wyoming
Wyoming Interns to Teacher Scholars (WITS) is a Robert Noyce Scholarship program targeting STEM undergraduates, graduates, and professionals interested in obtaining a K-6 elementary teaching certificate. The Robert Noyce Scholarship program at UW has two components:
1. WITS Scholars: (Application deadline April 1, 2018.)
2. WITS Internships: (Application deadline April 15, 2018)

- Scholarships in the amount of $12,000 will cover tuition, room and board, and a tablet for transfer students and UW students who are enrolled as dual majors in mathematics, biology, chemistry, geology, or computer science and elementary education. The program leads to certification as an elementary teacher in Wyoming. Recipients must teach two years in a Title-I school district for each year of scholarship support.
- There have been four cohorts of WITS scholars since the program began in October 2013. Twenty-three scholars have been admitted the WITS the program. Six have graduated and four are teaching in Title 1 schools. Five are student teaching in spring 2019. The rest are still taking courses.
2. WITS Internships: (Application deadline April 15, 2018)
- Two-week paid summer internships for UW students with a minimum of 30 credit hours to encourage elementary teaching as a career. These interns will be placed in summer camps such as the Teton Science Schools summer camp, Lander Lights On After School Program or Sinks Canyon State Park. A stipend up to $1,000 will be paid for participating in the internship.
- There have been four cohorts of WITS interns. Forty interns have worked in various summer program for the last four years. Eleven of the interns began WITS scholars (48% of all scholars). Settings included the Sinks Canyon, Teton Science Schools, and other STEM camps associated with the University of Wyoming.
